Leaders from across the political spectrum, both in North Carolina and around the nation, felt the need to speak up for civility and peace after a series of suspected explosive-laden packages were sent to major figures on the left and in the media.

The White House immediately denounced the serious threats to public figures with a statement from Sarah Sanders saying, "These terrorizing acts are despicable, and anyone responsible will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law. The United States Secret Service and other law enforcement agencies are investigating and will take all appropriate actions to protect anyone threatened by these cowards.”

Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC), in a statement on Twitter, denounced violence against political opponents and encouraged tough penalties on whomever carried out the plot.

U.S. Congressman David Price (D-NC), who represents much of the Research Triangle area, expressed a sentiment felt by many on the left, that the president was to some degree responsible for producing the environment these attacks emerged from.

Hillary and Bill Clinton received a suspicious package, discovered by a mail screener, at their suburban New York home. Former President Barack Obama also received a suspected explosive delivery to his Washington, D.C. office and Democratic leader Debbie Wasserman-Schultz is said to have a similar package under investigation in Florida.

All of these packages come a day after billionaire George Soros, a major left-wing financier and common right-wing punching bag, received a package containing a likely pipe bomb in his mailbox.

As CNN was reporting on all of these developments, a similar package was found in the Time-Warner Building where they report from. They cut from coverage of the incidents as they become part of the story and had to evacuate.

According to statements from the FBI, initial investigation found these devices to be "rudimentary" but "functional."
